HOW THE RELAY WORKS

Here is how the baton moves.

No region speaks for the world. Each speaks honestly from its own experience.

01

Receive

Start with the question handed over by the region before you.

02

Add your reality

Show what the issue looks like where you live and what people can do about it.

03

Pass it on

Leave the next region with a better, sharper question.

PARTICIPATION PATHWAYS

Where do you fit?

Start with the kind of contribution that feels most like you. You can choose more than one.

NEED HELP CHOOSING?

Find where you fit.

Answer six quick questions. We will suggest a pathway and three roles to explore.

No perfect answer required. This is guidance, not a test. You can still explore every role.

FOR ORGANIZATIONS AND DELIVERY TEAMS

Help build and operate the relay.

Bring the people, capability or local knowledge that makes a global conversation possible. Delivery is fully online, and every role is volunteer and unpaid.

Designed for continuity. No critical role depends on one person. Every lead has a deputy, coordinator and standby, so the relay keeps moving.

NEXT-GEN COUNCIL · AGES 13–19

Young people shape the questions from the start.

Young people should not be brought in at the end to react to decisions adults already made. The Council helps frame the questions, challenges assumptions and contributes to the LEAD48 Global Leadership Report 2027.

01 · LEADERSHIP

Who leads, and who decides?

Test trust, power, institutions and accountability against the reality young people inherit in each region.

02 · AI

Whose intelligence, language and future count?

Examine access, infrastructure, safety, human oversight, local-language data and unequal benefits. Not possibility alone.

03 · SUSTAINABILITY

What can this generation live with?

Connect climate resilience, livelihoods, culture and just transition to actual regional choices and constraints.

32proposed council placesFour participants across each of eight regional groupings, with deliberate representation across ages 13–15 and 16–19.
  1. CO-DESIGNRegional circles review the provocation and identify what adult agendas routinely miss.
  2. CHALLENGE LIVEEvery regional movement includes a Next-Gen challenge, question or evidence contribution, not a ceremonial appearance.
  3. CO-AUTHORCouncil members review what each region handed on and contribute the Next-Gen commitments to the LEAD48 Global Leadership Report 2027.
  4. TRACK IMPACTParticipants receive a visible response showing which ideas changed the programme, survived the relay or remain unresolved.

SPEAKERS / BATON CARRIERS

What leadership insight do you bring?

Bring one idea you have earned through your work, research or lived experience. Make it useful. Then leave the next region a question worth answering.

The enduring LEAD48 question
What kind of leadership does our world need now?
THE 2027 EDITION QUESTION How must leadership change when the systems people depend on are changing faster than institutions can adapt?

Take on one dimension of the 2027 question through a specific regional or lived reality.

Speaker participation is now being organized through the LEAD48 programme themes. Applications are not currently open.

Selected Baton Carriers respond to the central question, engage the incoming baton, join preparation and technical checks, keep to the curated format, avoid promotional presentations and take part in a deliberate handoff. Recording and editorial reuse require clear, separate permission.

ONE GLOBAL INQUIRY · MANY REGIONAL TRUTHS

The baton carries a question, not just the microphone.

Each region receives an unfinished question, tests it against local life and passes on what it learned. That is what turns 48 hours into one conversation.

THE LEAD48 GLOBAL RELAY 2027 Eight regions on one continuous 48-hour clock: every wave and handover in your local time. See the full relay →
Regional authenticity is a selection standard.

We curate for contextual grounding, local knowledge, within-region diversity, credible evidence and the ability to engage another region. Not prestige.

PRACTICAL VALUE · CROSS-REGIONAL EXCHANGE · LASTING RECORD

The livestream is the beginning, not the final product.

Every contribution is useful in the moment, connected to another region, and captured for the work that follows.

What every session must produce
Regional reality

What is actually true in this context?

Leadership insight

What does this change about how we lead?

Practical action

What can an individual, team or institution test?

Point of tension

What remains contested or unresolved?

Baton question

What must the next region examine?

Where regions meet each other

Selected handoffs will bring outgoing and incoming regions into the same live exchange. Topics may include culture and leadership legitimacy; hierarchy and psychological safety; identity and belonging; communication and conflict; AI under unequal infrastructure; sustainability under different economic pressures; and social impact across different institutional capacities.

The incoming region must respond on air to what it receives. That response is part of the program, not backstage context.

What survives the 48 hours
LEAD48 Global Leadership Report 2027Regional realities, practical responses, agreements, disagreements and the questions still open.
Recordings and podcastAccessible ways to revisit sessions across time zones.
Documentary and short-form storiesHuman moments, regional truths, clips and explainers.
Annual learning platformA growing record of how leadership realities change over time.

Respect is part of the architecture: recording, editing and reuse will follow clear participant permissions, attribution rules, captioning standards and privacy safeguards.
